What is an island without dikes? Unbelievable, right? The people of Altena, the island wedged between the Bergsche Maas, the Afgedamde Maas, the Boven Merwede and De Biesbosch, know all too well about getting their feet wet. It also knows what the water can do when it is in a hurry and longs for the vastness of the North Sea.
