The Archemerberg is part of a moraine that was formed during the last ice age. To the west of the mountain there are drifting sand areas, these are mainly the result of human activities such as burning, cutting, sod cutting and cutting, which easily caused drifting and the sand to blow up into dunes. The Archemerberg and Lemelerberg together form a large nature reserve with mainly forest and heath. You will also pass Egede castle. This house was first mentioned in 1382. On the site of the house there is now a farm, but you can still see a remnant of what must once have been a magnificent manor house. The entrance gates have been moved and are now located at a mansion in Enschede.
