Description
From Midwolde in Groningen you can easily drive into the countryside of Drenthe. Here you will find a varied landscape of polders, stream valleys and forests. You will also pass dolmens and castles.
Zuursche Duinen
But first you will experience some Groningen cultural history. Exactly, in the form of two beautiful, similar-looking medieval churches: those in Midwolde and Tolbert. Cycling through the polder you enter Drenthe. You will soon cycle through the Zuursche Duinen: a nature reserve with heath, coniferous forest, drifting sand and fens.
Historical Roden
Hunebed D1 owes its number to its northernmost location in Drenthe. By the way, it is a beautiful location. Just above Norg you cycle through a large forest area. It's striking how quiet it can be here, wonderful! The Tonckensborg is a mansion from 1630 that has been inhabited by the Tonckens family since 1742. Further on there is a deposit that has been set up as a museum: Mensinge. The historic Brink of Roden is a must see.
