Description
This route takes you for a tour around Leek in Groningen. You will pass old churches and Drenthe's natural beauty.
Nienoord
The route starts in the village of Tolbert. As befits a Groningen village, there is also a beautiful medieval church here! Further on you will pass Nienoord. This country estate was created in the sixteenth century as a reclamation project in a vast peat area. Now it is a stylish noble estate with a beautiful borg from 1524. There is an exhibition about the glorious history of the borg and old-fashioned carriages. A special piece of Dutch history.
Onlanden
There is a beautiful Romanesque church in Midwolde, it resembles the one in Tolbert. The church in Lettelbert is a bit small, but no less beautiful. The Leekstermeer is not located in Groningen, but in Drenthe. To the right you drive through the rugged low peat areas of the Onlanden, a unique piece of nature between the higher Drenthe sandy soils and Groningen clay soils.
