Description

This tour through the extensive polders of Zuid-Beveland and along the north bank of the Western Scheldt starts near Goes. On this route you cycle through the beautiful area known as the Zak van Zuid-Beveland, one of the oldest polder landscapes in the Netherlands. You can enjoy uneven ponds, narrow dikes and rolling creek ridges by bike. The system of winding dikes was created in the 12th century by the centuries-long battle against the water and forms a beautiful patchwork in the landscape. The Zak van Zuid-Beveland has the status of Valuable Cultural Landscape and belongs to the National Landscape of Southwest Zeeland. De Vijf Gebroeders flour mill was built in 1851. The round, brick tower mill replaced another mill in the village, which was struck by lightning and burned out. The Five Brothers served until the early 1960s. The mill has been thoroughly restored and runs regularly. In principle you can visit him on Saturdays. Halfway through your route, stretch your legs at Strandbrasserie de Landing. On a sunny day, sit down on the terrace with a view over the Western Scheldt for a fresh drink or a nice cup of coffee. Are you hungry for more? Then you can choose from all kinds of delicious dishes from the menu.
