This cycle route runs right through the Ankeveense Plassen and the Kortenhoefse Plassen, past meadows and through nature reserves with swamp forest and reed beds. The Plassen are nowadays popular recreation places and nature reserves and were created by large-scale peat excavations in the past. The river Vecht should not be missed on this route. This river is known for its outdoor places. In the Golden Age in particular, as many as 200 monumental summer houses were built on the banks of the Vecht by Amsterdam merchants who had made their fortune in trade in the 17th century.
