This cycle route runs right through the Ankeveense Plassen and the Kortenhoefse Plassen, past meadows and through nature reserves with swamp forests and reed beds. The Plassen are nowadays popular recreational areas and nature reserves and were created by large-scale peat excavations in the past. The river Vecht should not be missed on this route. This river is known for its country estates. Mainly in the Golden Age, as many as 200 monumental summer houses on the banks of the Vecht were built by Amsterdam merchants who had made their fortune in trade in the 17th century.
