Via the hamlet of Bosschenhuizen we head for the hamlet of Trintelen (88) where old farms determine the village image. Eys, Wittem and the Heuvelland Via the'Eyserweg\\\' we descend to the valley of the Eyserbeek.
In the conviviality of the village of Eys, a visit to'Herberg Bie de Tantes\\\' is hard to resist. Those who want to postpone this virtue until the end of the bike ride will feel their calf muscles tense on the'Wittemerweg\\\'. The suffering is short-lived, however. At the top, one of the most beautiful picnic spots in Limburg awaits.
We pass the village of Wittem, which is also known as a regional place of pilgrimage, and the so-called Redemptorist monastery that was built around 1730. The monastery complex includes a library, a monastery garden, a burial vault and a number of chapels.
The monastery is located opposite Wittem Castle. The story goes that William of Orange stayed in the castle for a few nights during the 80-year war. (87) Just before the Gulperberg (86) follow the Geul river in the direction of Mechelen. (90) Hamlets such as Elzet, Kleeberg and Melleschet bring us ever closer to the village of Vijlen, which at 200 metres above NAP can call itself the highest village in the Netherlands.
In the distance looms the familiar image of the Vijlenerbos, which consists of a series of forests that stretch over approximately 8 km between Epen and Vaals. Shortly after the hamlet of Harles we cycle via junction (93) in the direction of Lemiers.
After cycling for a while on the cycle path of the Rijksweg in the direction of Nijswiller, we turn right after the roundabout. Orsbach and Bocholtz We soon exchange the hustle and bustle of traffic for the peace of the Orsbacher Wald. (96) The protected nature reserve borders the German village of Orsbach of the same name.
The asphalt road climbs steadily between the fields to Orsbach, which is located on the German part of the Bocholtz plateau. The route follows junctions (97 and 89) through the centre of Bocholtz. Via Bocholtzerheide and Baneheide we quickly approach the end point of this cycle tour on the market square of Simpelveld.
