Description

WORLD PORT - WORLD ISLAND
In the 1950s and 1960s, the Botlek and Europoort port areas were constructed above Voorne-Putten. In this way the port became closer to the North Sea. The skyline of the world port of Rotterdam can be clearly seen from Voorne-Putten.
BEACON LIGHT FOR THE PORT
De Stenen Baak is an old lighthouse and now a museum. The open fire on top of the tower served as a beacon for the ships. Next to the tower is a small ball oven. Due to the development of the Rotterdam port, the sea can no longer be seen from the top of the tower.
ABOVE AND UNDERWATER
The Oostvoornse Meer is a deep and clear (brackish) water that has been one of the most important training areas for recreational diving for years. The depth varies from 20 to 40 meters. The lake is a recreational area on the edge of one of the world's largest seaports. In the past, the sandbank'Maasdooien\\' was located here, which over the centuries has become a true ship cemetery. That is why the Oostvoornse Meer will contain more shipwrecks than have been discovered so far.
FURTHER AND FURTHER INTO THE SEA
In the 1970s, the Maasvlakte was constructed through land reclamation from the sea, followed by Maasvlakte II in 2013. This created a world-class port, a logistics hub and an industrial complex. Look across the Maasvlakte from the Futureland information center at the industrial activity. Marvel at the excavations during construction, where many mammoth molars were found.
RECREATION IN THE PORT
Experiencing the port area is as exciting as it is relaxing. Be overwhelmed by the large cranes, the mammoth ships, the transshipment tanks and a few kilometers away you will be captivated by the beautiful nature and tranquility. Admire the large amount of protected plants. Look at the history of salmon fishing in the port of Zwartewaal.
HOLLOW MARE
The Holle Mare is a beautiful old creek that was once the connection between the Haringvliet and the Maas. From the Wouddijk you look out over the wide reed fields and moist grasslands that form a paradise for birds such as the barn swallow. Also pause for a moment at the old cemetery with war graves from the Second World War.
CATHERIJNEKERK, BRIELLE
You can see the Catherijne Church or Brielse Dom from afar and once you have climbed all 318 steps of the stairs in the tower, you will be rewarded with a breathtaking view all the way to the Brielse Meer. Follow in the footsteps of Mary Stewart who waved goodbye to her husband William III from this tower in 1688 when he sailed with a war fleet to England.
