Along the Merwede to Gorinchem

This cycling tour along the Merwede takes you through Sliedrecht, Hardinxveld-Giessendam and Boven-Hardinxveld, eventually ending in Gorinchem. In this former merchant and garrison town, once a bustling center of fishing, markets and trade, the street pattern from the 15th and 16th centuries has remained unchanged. The 16th-century ramparts have been preserved. In this fortified city of the Dutch Waterline you will find countless monumental buildings and historic defenses. In Gorinchem you can enjoy the harbor of Gorkum before the tour continues. You also cycle through the vast polders of the Alblasserwaard. This peat meadow area consists mainly of meadows on peat soil and is crossed by numerous ditches.
