Description

This cycle route starts at Fruitkwekerij't Keetje, where you can calmly prepare the route before you start. The dike of course refers to the Westfriese Omringdijk. With a length of 126 kilometres, this seven-century-old dike forms the border of West Friesland. On this side of the area, the dike holds back the water of the IJsselmeer. The region includes the villages of Hoogkarspel, Lutjebroek, Grootebroek and Bovenkarspel. The road that runs between Hoorn and Enkhuizen is the second oldest cobblestone road in our country. The road was opened in 1671 and was then called a wonder of the world! During this tour, you will cycle over the high dike and over the new version of that old cobblestone road. You will see that the houses there are still very close to the road. Want to know more about the history of West Friesland? See www.westfriesgenootschap.nl.
