Aachen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany

Bocholtz is located on the border with Germany and is ideal for a cross-border tour. Bocholtz is a fairly insignificant town, but beautiful historical discoveries have been made. For example, a Roman villa was excavated in 1911 and in 2003 a farmer found a Roman sarcophagus in his field.
Better known is Aachen, and the route takes you to the Laurensberg conurbation west of this city. Aachen is an industrial center in a coal region and the most famous tourist attraction in the city is undoubtedly the imposing Aachen Cathedral. This striking building was the first German monument to be included on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1978.
Because charming towns form the backbone of this tour, the tourist town of Vaals cannot be missed on this route. Because Vaals is virtually merged with the German city of Aachen, the village can also be seen as its suburb. More than a quarter of the residents of Vaals have German nationality and in the village you hear a mixture of Limburgish and German.
