Monument route Boekel & Venhorst

The sandy soils do not provide any natural wealth, so do not expect grand castles or mansions that are several hundred years old. But typical Brabant short or long facade farms as they can only be found in this area. Boekel is also the place where the first psychiatric institution in the Netherlands was established.  Sights during the cycle route: 

•  Museum de Kluis Built in 1742 as a monastery, this building grew into the first institution in the Netherlands for the treatment of psychiatric patients.
• Venhorst reclamation village Venhorst was founded in 1932. At the time it was designed on the drawing board as a Peel village. This can still be seen in the straight structure of the square and the long straight roads. 
• Long and short facades Each region has its own typical building styles for farms. On the edge of the Peel, these are the long and short facade farms.  Some beautiful specimens are still in and around Boekel. 
• Get acquainted with agricultural hospitality and activity Co-initiators of the cycle routes are agricultural entrepreneurs. They would like to introduce you to their company. That is why gazebos with a picnic bench have been placed at various places along the route. You can use it for free to relax. In the gazebos you can watch a film to learn more about the activities of the agricultural company. The gazebos are open daily from Easter Monday to November 1. 
• De Perekker The start and end point of the route is nature park De Perekker. A unique piece of landscape on the edge of the Peel, where the influences of the Peelrand break are visible on the surface. The local nature associations provide information in the beautiful park and the visitor center about the natural phenomena associated with the Peelrand fracture.
