Cycling along Linge and Waal

From Heukelum you cycle to two beautiful windmills in Gorinchem. Flour Mill Nooit Perfect was built in 1718, after a storm destroyed a post mill on this site. Originally the mill was built as a ground sailer, but in 1764 the mill was converted into a scaffolding mill. In 1889 a fire broke out in the mill and it had to be largely renovated. Parts of oil mill'Never Perfect\\\' were used and that is how the round stone mill got its new name. Gorinchem plays the leading role during this cycle route. The city probably originated when fishermen and farmers founded a settlement here around the year 1000, in the estuary of the Linge and Merwede. In the mid-fourteenth century, the raised ramparts were reinforced with stone walls. Have a nice lunch in Gorinchem at Restaurant Metropole!
