Krimpenerwaard, South Holland, The Netherlands
Cycling route: 139740

Your route starts at Cheese Farm De Twee Hoeven. You cycle along the Hollandse IJssel between Oudewater and Hekendorp. Here you can still see small-scale floodplains, where the outer dike is high and steep. The nice Oudewater originated at the place where the river Lange Linschoten flows into the Hollandse IJssel. It is assumed that Oudewater is a corruption of'Oude (uiter)waard\\\'. Around 1265 Oudewater received city rights from the bishop of Utrecht, Hendrik van Vianden. After a crossing through the farmland you cycle along the Lek into Schoonhoven, a real silver city. Goldsmiths have been active in Schoonhoven since the Middle Ages. There are old monumental silver workshops and dozens of galleries, jewelers and studios. The Silver Museum, located in the seventeenth-century Arsenal, has a special collection of Dutch silverware from 1600.
