Along the rich heritage of the Heuvelland

A day of cycling in the beautiful Heuvelland, that's all it takes to evoke that invigorating holiday feeling. This route takes you through the beautiful surroundings of Schin op Geul and Gulpen.

Limburg heritage
During the first kilometers you will immediately see many old half-timbered farms along the road. It feels like you are cycling abroad. In Wijlre you come to the Geul along the Otten Mill. This undershot watermill dates from 1776. Further on you will pass the Doric St. Gertrude Church from 1839, the Brandbrouwerij (the oldest in the Netherlands) and Wijlre Castle. And then you're just on your way...

Valkenburg
Further afield there are sights such as the Neubourgermolen in Gulpen and the Redemptorist Monastery in Wittem. The road slopes slightly every now and then. It takes some effort, but you get beautiful panoramas in return, such as at Ubachsberg. At the end of your route are Valkenburg and the equally picturesque Oud-Valkenburg. You will find many photo opportunities here.
