Description
Westerwolde is easy to explore by bike. In this former East Groningen glory you drive through a cozy esdorp landscape with beautiful old towns and historical sights. After an overnight stay or cup of coffee at Paviljoen & Villapark Weddermeer you can start. You cycle along the Hoorndermeden, a nature reserve on the Westerwoldse Aa with extensive marshy grasslands. At Wedde you pass Huis te Wedde, whose origins date back to 1360. This stately building housed the Lords of Westerwolde for centuries. A little further on is De Korenbloem, a flour mill from 1895. In Veelerveen you see Niemans Molen, a flour mill from 1916.
