Description
Schoonhoven is a beautiful old town along the Lek. Along the river and through the Krimpenerwaard and Lopikerwaard it is wonderful to make kilometers.
Silver City
Cycling over the Lekdijk you have beautiful views over the flowery floodplains and the rippling river. You pass through Schoonhoven, known as Zilverstad. The old centre enjoys a protected cityscape, you see among other things the Veerpoort from 1601, the only one of the original five city gates that has survived.
Lopik
Further on you pass the Nature Museum de Wielewaal, a nice stop. Here you will learn more about nature in the Groene Hart. In Lopik you can admire the beautiful fifteenth-century village church. Then you drive through the Lopikerwaard and the adjacent Krimpenerwaard. Two beautiful polder landscapes where you see vast grasslands, ditches and reed beds. Along the car-free road you also regularly pass a centuries-old monumental farm.
