Schoonhoven is a beautiful old town along the Lek. It is wonderful to travel for miles along the river and through the Krimpenerwaard and Lopikerwaard.
Silver City
Cycling along the Lekdijk you have beautiful views of the flowery floodplains and the babbling river. You pass through Schoonhoven, known as Silver City. The old center enjoys a protected cityscape, including the Veerpoort from 1601, the only one of the original five city gates that remains.
Lopik
Further on you pass the Wielewaal Nature Museum, a nice stop. Here you will learn more about nature in the Groene Hart. In Lopik you can admire the beautiful fifteenth-century village church. Then you drive through the Lopikerwaard and the adjacent Krimpenerwaard. Two beautiful polder landscapes where you see extensive grasslands, ditches and reed collars. Along the car-free road you also regularly pass a centuries-old monumental farm.
