Cycling through the woods near Wuustwezel

There are several beautiful nature reserves within cycling range around Kalmthout. This route takes you across the Kalmthoutse Heide and through the Horendonkse Bossen. You also drive a bit through the area around the Dutch village of Nispen.

The Mates
You start the route at De Bosrust, a cozy tavern on the edge of the Horendonkse Bossen. Enjoy a drink and something tasty here, so that you can get on your bike with enough energy. You will soon reach the De Maatjes nature reserve with its reed fields, swamp forests and wet meadows. What immediately stands out here: the silence! You can enjoy a beautiful view of this area from the seven-meter-high De Klot lookout tower.

Suske & Wiske
You drive through a characteristic farm landscape around the picturesque Wuustwezel. Further on you will pass the Klein Schietveld. Shooting exercises were held here from 1820 to 1894, and now there is a barracks surrounded by unspoilt nature. At junction 72 you can take a look at the Provincial Suske en Wiske-Children's Museum at Beauvoislaan 98 (guided tours are by appointment!). On the vast plain of the Kalmthoutse Heide you can fully enjoy the beautiful views. You cycle back to De Bosrust via Nispen.
