Description
It is wonderful to cycle for miles along the Waal. Cycling along the dike, you can enjoy the fresh air and the views over the water and the grasslands. You will soon arrive in Gorinchem, a well-preserved fortified town. Get off your bike to experience the historical atmosphere. You will cross the Waal (which is called Boven-Merwede here) by ferry, after which you can take a look at the picturesque Woudrichem. Here you will see, among other things, the centuries-old Gevangenpoort (Prison Gate), which was part of the city wall. After crossing the Afgedamde Maas, you will arrive at yet another historical sight: Loevestein Castle. You will cycle through the polders to Brakel and cross the Waal again.
