\\\"The sea once raged here, but that time will not come again. The Zuiderzee is now called IJsselmeer.\\\" This is a passage from De Zuiderzeeballade, very appropriate for this literary route across the West Frisian Omringdijk. This particularly diverse cycle tour takes you from Schagen to Enkhuizen, using poems and stories. The place Schagen was already mentioned around 975 in various texts, such as the population count; 43 people lived there at the time. There was a lot of water around Schagen, but it would take a long time before there was a coastline near Schagen. Don't forget to visit the special Maria Chapel here. This is open daily and is cared for by volunteers. Bird lovers can indulge themselves in the Braakpolder. Waders such as the avocet and lapwing find their paradise here. Even the marsh harrier has been spotted here. Do you want to spy on them yourself? The Water Board has installed a beautiful lookout tower. From Twisk you come to Opperdoes, known for the Opperdoezer Ronde. True enthusiasts consider this potato a delicacy and come from all over the country to Opperdoes especially to buy this potato. For example, writer Jan Wolkers was a great fan of this potato!
