Your route starts at Camping and Chaletpark Bergzicht. The valley through which the winding Vecht winds its way is a beautiful landscape in which picturesque villages, extensive estates, dense forests and wide moors extend. In this beautiful nature lies the old Hanseatic city of Ommen, where a German trade association used to trade in beer, cheese, sausage, wood and other goods. In Ommen there is also a beautiful, thatched, octagonal scaffolding mill from 1818, Den Oordt. You can see it looming on the horizon from afar. Het Laer used to be a castle; the surrounding canals and the wooded area in which the castle came into its own are still visible. After a number of sieges, renovations and takeovers, Landgoed Het Laer has grown into a beautifully restored manor.

There is an old manor on this estate. It is unknown when the house was built exactly, but it was first mentioned in 1382. This building was nothing more than a refined farmhouse with a special gentleman's room for the owner. In 1742 Johan Lodewijk bought the farm together with his wife and had the manor renovated in a classical style. He also had an impressive park built with a long driveway at the front and a grand canal. In 1850 the house was rebuilt and expanded in neoclassical style. The current country house was the result of this. In 1932 the house was bought by the municipality of Ommen, which has preserved the cultural-historical monument. A few years ago, the country house was completely renovated in style and transformed into the fairytale location it is today. On the wooded estate you will find a special semi-circular garden arbor, an ice cellar, an orangery and a pigeon tower.

The most famous windmill type in the Netherlands. Windmills were not only used to produce flour from cereals, but also for draining polder areas. Natural energy. The most famous windmills can be found in Kinderdijk, really set up as a polder model. A must see!
