Description
Vast reed fields and flowery hayfields. Together with the Weerribben, the polder area De Wieden is one of the most important marshlands in Europe. Giethoorn, nicknamed 'Dutch Venice', guarantees you a fun day out. It is known for its picturesque appearance: cute little bridges run over waterways where punts float. Blokzijl has always been a busy town due to its favourable location. Peat from the area ensured a flourishing trade, but the waters also worked to Blokzijl's advantage.
