Description

Have you heard of Operations Manna and Chowhound? These were the food drops carried out by the British and American air forces
during the hunger winter. The road from Wageningen to Rhenen - which you cycle on - was littered with food parcels in early 1945.
We of course know Wageningen as the City of Liberation. In the now famous Hotel De Wereld
the German commander in the Netherlands surrendered to the Canadian General Foulkes and the capitulation was signed. The route is also dedicated to Operation Market Garden. For example, you cycle past a number of former landing areas for gliders and paratroopers near Wolfheze and in Heelsum there is the oldest war memorial in memory of the Battle of Arnhem. And don't forget to visit the interesting Airborne Museum in Hotel Hartenstein near Oosterbeek. Starting point: Parallelweg 5, 6874 BH Wolfheze
