From Zeelandbrug to Oosterscheldekering

Cycling across Schouwen-Duiveland and Noord-Beveland, you can enjoy views over the sea and the Oosterschelde. You will also experience plenty of cultural history, because you drive over Neeltje Jans and through Zierikzee.

North Beveland
The infamous All Saints Flood of 1532 flooded all of Noord-Beveland. It took more than sixty years before people dared to reclaim the island. On the north side of the island you can still see that caution in the many inlets: small polders that lie behind the sea dike in places where people feared a dike breach. From the dike you look out over a unique beautiful nature. You see wet marshes, reed beds and of course the water of the Oosterschelde. Beautiful!

Picturesque Zierikzee
In Burgh you can make a cozy pit stop at Pannekoekenmolen de Graanhalm. The mill dates from 1847. A little further on you pass the former ring rampart that was raised at the end of the ninth century against robbery Normans. You get a beautiful view of the past here! You drive through the Schelphoek nature reserve to the historic fortified town of Zierikzee.

Neeltje Jans
Neeltje Jans served as a work island during the construction of the storm surge barrier. Over the years, wind and weather have turned Neeltje Jans into a beautiful dune landscape that is held together by marram grass and sea buckthorn. On the island you can visit an information center about the Delta Works. In 2015, the second Tour stage ended on Neeltje Jans. Sprinter André Greipel then crossed the finish line first.
