Cycling along the dolmens

Cycling in Drenthe is never boring, no matter how many kilometers you have made. This route takes you past six dolmens. And while you cycle through the Drentsche Aa national stream and esdorp landscape!

Drentsche Aa
You drive for miles through the best preserved stream and esdorp landscape in Western Europe. In 150 years, the setting of grasslands, groves, hedgerows and ash trees has hardly changed. The Drentsche Aa also meanders as usual. It looks like an open-air museum. A feeling that is only reinforced by the characteristic Saxon farms that you see, for example, in Andere and Gasteren.

Drenthe dolmens
No matter how often you see them, dolmens continue to appeal to the imagination. D17 and D18 were sold to the government by the Rolde board for 150 guilders at the end of the nineteenth century. D14 is one of the largest Dutch dolmens. D13 is unique to the Netherlands: it is still located in the original mound, and it could only be accessed via a staircase.
