Tour of castles in Hof van Twente

After a look at Kasteel Huis te Diepenheim, you get on your bike. Markelo is a popular place where old monuments, such as farms, manors with outbuildings and historical burial grounds, have been well preserved. The nature in the area is more than worth it. For example, the Elsenerveld and -veen, which you cycle through during your tour, have special plants to offer. Then you cycle further through the nature reserve de Borkeld, of which the Elsenerveen is part. You can enjoy a rolling heathland with beautiful juniper bushes - the largest juniper bush in the Netherlands. A little further on, the Weldam estate extends, on which a manor has been built. The estate was first mentioned in 1389.
