The Veluwe is more than nature, anyone who comes here often knows that! With this route you will discover a special gem: De Essenburgh Castle.
Essenburgh
The starting point of this route is Camping Kostverloren. You will soon cycle past De Essenburgh Castle, a fairytale castle from 1652. It is located in a beautiful area, between forests and vast heathlands. The estate is laid out in the style of English landscape gardens and there is a monastery building of the Premonstratensians. In 1992 a second monastery was built for the female Premonstratensians.
Elspeetse Heide
What is special about the Elspeetse Heide is that the extremely rare rice grain moss grows there, which was long assumed to be extinct. The presence of centuries-old burial mounds and old oak coppice groves also give the area special value. Heath sheep traditionally graze the Elspeetse Heide, be sure to take a look at the sheepfold! A little further on you will pass De Hoop windmill from 1894, on the edge of Elspeet. You drive back to your starting point through the woods and heathland near Vierhouten.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
