The extensive nature reserve around Nijmegen is ready to be explored. Yellowhammer, nightjar and long-eared owl roost among the trees. At the foot of the green giants there are fifty different types of mushrooms, so take your guide with you to recognize the different types. The adjacent Ooijpolder with heathland and grasslands provides the necessary variety.
13 km after departure from Berg en Dal you cycle past the De Duffelt belt mill from 1868. Each mill sends a message with the position of its blades. De Duffelt once told when the border was safe for smugglers. Nowadays we can see by the blue miller's pennant whether we are welcome at the mill.
With exotic plants, the Millinger tea garden lies like a Mediterranean oasis in the polder between the Konik horses and Galloway cattle.
Also visit the late Gothic church in the smallest village in the Netherlands. It is still used for weddings, funerals and as an exhibition space. M33: Church of Persingen was the first stone structure in the village.
