Description
The sea inlet has a significant impact on the appearance of the area. Rare birds such as the bittern and the bearded man hide among the reed beds, while the white-tailed eagle skims over the salt marshes. When you see the first windmill on the route appear on the horizon, it's Molen Ropta, just north of Metslawier. Then you follow the stream valley of the Dokkumerdiep to Jachthaven Lunegat. Further on you pass Windmill De Gans from 1850, named after the Ganzenpolder drainage area.
