Port route Rotterdam, Schiedam and Vlaardingen

Vlaardingen is considered the herring city of the Netherlands. Fishing has always been important in the history of the city. Stop off at Eetcafé De Waal for a cup of coffee. History and industry go hand in hand in this route along the impressive Rotterdam world ports. You pass the Maritime Museum, further on you come through the Oude Haven. Here you see the Dutch White House: a 45 meter high office building from 1898. At the time it was the first skyscraper in Europe. You cycle over the Willemsbrug to the Kop van Zuid. The ports here were developed by the notorious businessman Lodewijk Pincoffs. You cycle over the Erasmusbrug. Via the historic Veerhaven and the Maastunnel you cycle to the old village center of Charlois. The Heijplaat peninsula is definitely worth a trip.
