Cycling along the Kagerplassen and the bulb fields

Discover the varied surroundings of the Kagerplassen and Katwijk aan Zee. During this route you cycle through the dunes, cross the Kagerplassen and become acquainted with the bulb fields.

Along the Kagerplassen
The starting point of this cycle route is in Kaag. Park your car in the parking lot in Julianalaan and leave from here to discover the area around the Kagerplassen. The Kagerplassen are used as a recreational area and fishing grounds. The lakes are bordered by a network of small reed ditches and canals and there are small islands everywhere in the water. You can cross the Kagerplassen by ferry towards Zevenhuizen. Please note: this only sails in the summer months.

On to the coast
You cycle through Zevenhuizen towards the Vrouw Vennepolder, a wonderfully extensive area for cycling. You cycle through Oegstgeest and Rijnsburg to the North Sea beach at Katwijk aan Zee. In Katwijk aan Zee you can relax at Beach Pavilion Zee en Zon. Here you have a wonderful view over the beach and you can have a nice lunch or coffee here before you continue. Then you get back on your bike towards Noordwijk. You cycle through the Coepelduynen, a wonderfully quiet area.

Through the bulb fields
You cycle from Noordwijkerhout to Sassenheim through the extensive bulb fields. The dazzling display of colors of the bulbs attracts more than a million visitors from all over the world every spring. After the crocuses bloom, an overwhelming bloom of tulips, daffodils and hyacinths begins at the end of March and continues until May. In late summer you can enjoy gladioli, dahlias, carnations and asters.
