From Hilversum around the Loosdrechtse Plassen

Your cycle route starts at Van Beek Tweewielers. Fort Tienhoven was part of the New Dutch Waterline. It was completed in 1850 and consisted of a defensible guardhouse of 15 by 15 meters. The fort had to close off the Tienhovense Vaart and guard the inundation quay plus locks. Gunterstein Castle is the third castle that was built on this site. The first, from 1300, was demolished. The second was built here in 1518, but was set on fire by the French troops in 1673. In 1680, the stately house that still stands there was built here: a square brick building, surrounded by a moat. You cycle over the dike that leads across the Loosdrechtse Plassen to Kortenhoef. The black tern breeds on the remote banks.
