Provided by: route.nl
Your route starts at the Véssumse Hoeve. Vessem is a quiet village with a large rectangular lawn as the central village square and a number of beautiful buildings around it. The oldest of these is the church tower from the 15th century. Many pilgrims come to Vessem on their way to Santiago de Compostela. You can taste the peace and contemplation in the air. You then cycle north via the Landschotse Heide, to ride a part along the edge of the forest of Landgoed Baest. You will also discover a number of the so-called Eight Salvations: Eersel, Duizel, Steensel, Knegsel, Wintelre, Reusel, Hulsel and Netersel. In the past they were called 'the sellingen', or 'the beatitudes'. Dutch soldiers who were stationed here during the Belgian Revolution called the villages scornfully 'the wretched ones'!
