Weert, Limburg, The Netherlands
Cycling route: 137850
Provided by: Groots Genieten
This mill route in the Dutch-Belgian border area starts in Weert. In the area south of Weert you will find many historic wind and water mills. You also drive through some nature reserves of the Kempen-Broek border park.
Molenbeek The first mill on your route is the Broekmolen, a water mill from 1738. This flour mill is located on the Belgian border, on the Abeek. In the past, this branch of the Maas was also called Molenbeek because there were so many mills on it. Mill De Nijverheid, a little further in Stramproy, is a round brick belt mill from 1903. Grain is still milled here on a voluntary basis. Molen Sint-Jan is a flour mill from 1783.
Watermill You follow the winding Belgian border to two centuries-old watermills. First you pass the Armenmolen, which dates from 1686. The Uffelse Molen is a former ban mill whose history dates back to the Middle Ages. The nineteenth-century St. Anna flour mill in Tungelroy can be visited every first Wednesday of the month, or when the sails are turning.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
