Cycling in the Bulb Region

Get on your bike and get to know the Bulb Region near Katwijk and Noordwijk aan Zee. Enjoy the varied nature: forests, polder landscapes and the beach.

Katwijk Lighthouse
The starting point of this cycle route is in Katwijk aan Zee at Beach Pavilion Zee en Zon. The pavilion is located on the edge of the Bulb Region, where you can of course enjoy cycling. Get on your bike and after a few minutes you will cycle past the Katwijk Lighthouse, or the Vierboet. After the Brandaris on Terschelling, this lighthouse is the oldest preserved lighthouse building in the Netherlands. Nice to know: in Katwijk aan Zee the children are not 'brought by the stork', but come from the Vierboet.

From Katwijk aan Zee to Voorhout
From Katwijk aan Zee you cycle towards Katwijk. Here you cycle past the Geregtigheid mill, which you can visit to learn all about the old miller's craft. A little later you cycle past the Hoop Doet Leven mill. This mill was originally built in Rijnsburg, but in 1999 the mill was moved to its current location in the Elsgeest polder.

Cycling through the Coepelduynen
You cycle through the Coepelduynen along the coast to Katwijk aan Zee. This is a wonderfully varied nature reserve where you can enjoy walking and cycling. There is a great variety of nature: dune grasslands, shrublands and forests with special plants and animals adorn the area. The transition to the polder landscape is quite abrupt, because there is no inner dune edge. You end the route again at Strandpaviljoen Zee en Zon.
