Round Kagerplassen near Leiden

You immediately discover the Broekdijk mill, from 1862. The octagonal wooden polder mill went wild in 1972 during a storm and burned down. This mill from the Waarderpolder was placed on the masonry substructure of that burnt-down mill. You cycle around the Kagerplassen, which are surrounded by a network of small reed ditches and canals. There are large and small islands in the water everywhere. At Warmond you cycle to the Huys te Warmont or Huis te Warmond. This castle originally dates from the 12th or 13th century, but the current house is a late baroque country estate with classicist influences.
