Description

Your route starts at Camping het Vossenhol. At the beginning of this route you cycle through the Hanseatic city of Harderwijk. Here you will find many elegant houses and stately buildings from the time when the city was prosperous due to fishing on the Zuiderzee. From here you cycle along the edge of the Randmeren in the direction of Bunschoten-Spakenburg. You will pass the Arkemheen Steam Pumping Station, where you will also find a visitors centre that is worth a visit. The polder around the pumping station is now a bird sanctuary. The Arkemheense polder was drained by the Arkemheen steam pumping station for about a hundred years from 1883. The function of this paddle wheel pumping station was taken over by an electric pumping station in 1983, but the old steam pumping station is still occasionally put into operation.
