In the footsteps of Premonstratensians and Trappists

You can taste the history in the authentic Kempen landscape against the Belgian border. In several places you will come across the ancient traces of Premonstratensians and Trappists.

Priory Postel
Before the wolf was spotted for the first time a few years ago, the Leenderbos was the place where the last wolf was seen in the Netherlands in 1897. The sheltered forests are a popular habitat for numerous animals. Water mill De Venbergsemolen became the ban mill of the Norbertine Priory of Postel in 1331: local residents were obliged to grind their grain there and part of the proceeds went to the priory.

Achelse Hermitage
You cycle through De Malpie with its many large and small fens. At bicycle junction 217 you can enjoy the old, restored buildings of De Achelse Kluis abbey. Those who want to do more than just look around can also take a sip: the Trappist beer Achel is brewed here in their own home brewery.
