In the footsteps of Premonstratensians and Trappists

You can taste the history in the authentic Kempen landscape near the Belgian border. In various places you will come across the age-old traces of Premonstratensians and Trappists.

Priory Postel
Before the wolf was spotted for the first time a few years ago, the Leenderbos was the place where the last wolf in the Netherlands was seen in 1897. The sheltered forests are a popular habitat for many animals. Water mill The Venbergsemolen became the ban mill of the Norbertine Priory of Postel in 1331: local residents were obliged to grind their grain there and part of the proceeds went to the priory.

Achelse Kluis
You cycle through De Malpie with its many large and small fens. At cycling junction 217 you can enjoy the old, restored buildings of De Achelse Kluis Abbey. If you want to do more than just look around, you can also try a sip: the Trappist beer Achel is brewed here in the in-house brewery.
