Your route starts at Restaurant van Hal. This route takes you to Wisch Castle in Terborg, whose history stretches back eight centuries. The current white building was built in 1644 on the east bank of the IJssel River. The black walnut tree is over two centuries old! With a circumference of almost 5 meters, it's the thickest walnut in the Netherlands. On your journey, you'll also discover the Slangenburg estate and its castle. Frederik Johan van Baer decorated the walls with paintings depicting his wife, whom he lost to illness. Besides being a painter, he was also a skilled agricultural economist. For example, he purchased the Doetinchemse Heide from the city of Doetinchem and laid out a system of avenues there, which still exists today.
