Tour of Hollandscheveld, Gees Forestry and Geesbrug

Enjoy a quiet part of Drenthe between the deciduous trees of Boswachterij Gees. Because the area is slightly higher than the surroundings, you are treated to picturesque views over the surrounding grasslands. Between the deciduous trees, small pools glisten, here and there the forest breaks open for a heathland. Don't be alarmed when you see an adder slithering away between the damp heather plants. These animals like to lie on the sandy soil to sunbathe near coppices and along the edges of the forests. You will also discover Hollandscheveld. Three very notorious war criminals lived here, Auke Pattist, Dirk Hoogendam and Martinus Johannes van Oort. Remarkably enough, the famous resistance heroes Marinus and Johannes Post were also born and raised in Hollandscheveld.
