Mill route Alblasserwaard

When you think of the Alblasserwaard, you think of windmills, vast polders and peace. And that's right: you'll experience it all with this beautiful route. First you cycle to the Alblasserbos: a rarity in this region. Then you cycle through characteristic ribbon villages such as Wijngaarden, Gijbeland and Molenaarsgraaf. On the Molenkade just below Groot-Ammers you pass four polder mills. The Achtkante Molen dates from 1805, the other three were built at the end of the sixteenth century. Along the Lek you have beautiful views of the rippling water and the boats. Further on you come through Kinderdijk, you also cycle past the Kinderdijkse Molens: a mill run that was built in the eighteenth century to improve the drainage of the Alblasserwaard. Along the Alblas you cycle to Vertoeven bij Verhoeven.
