Description

When you think of the Alblasserwaard, you think of windmills, vast polders and tranquility. And that's right: you experience it all with this beautiful route. First you drive to the Alblasserbos: a rarity in this region. You then cycle through characteristic ribbon villages such as Wijngaarden, Gijbeland and Molenaarsgraaf. On the Molenkade just below Groot-Ammers you will pass four polder mills. The Achtkante Molen dates from 1805, the other three were built at the end of the sixteenth century. Along the Lek you have beautiful views of the rippling water and the boats. Further on you will pass through Kinderdijk and you will also cycle past the Kinderdijkse Molens: a mill corridor that was built in the eighteenth century to improve the drainage of the Alblasserwaard. You cycle along the Alblas to Vertoeven near Verhoeven.
