The Marken peninsula is a beautiful sight, ideal for a day of cycling. You can go to the Waterland region by road and a ferry. Here you will visit the beautiful towns of Volendam and Monnickendam.
Historic Holysloot
You drive over the medieval Waterlandse Zeedijk to Waterland, the low-lying region with its vast polders. You pass through Uitdam and along the Uitdammer Die, a former estuary of the Zuiderzee. On the other side of the road you look out over the Markermeer. In Holysloot you can enjoy the historic atmosphere.
The Play Tower
Monnickendam is also a town rich in history. You can learn more about it at the Monnickendam tourist agency. Museum De Speeltoren is definitely worth a visit. This historic town hall tower has the oldest hand-playable carillon in the Netherlands.
