This route takes you through three historic towns on the Gouwzee. You start in Volendam. The first few kilometres take you past the meadows of the Waterland, after which you drive through Monnickendam. In this town you will see many beautiful monumental buildings. Museum De Speeltoren is definitely worth a visit. You can learn more about this town at the Monnickendam tourist office. Then you drive over the Waterlandse Zeedijk, which was built in the Middle Ages! On Marken you will find a unique atmosphere. Here you will see, among other things, the Paard van Marken, an iconic lighthouse from 1839. With a ferry you cross the Gouwzee to the harbour of Volendam. Here you will find the Cooperative Fish Auction Sint-Vincentius, a monument from 1934.
