Description
It is wonderful to cycle around Peer through the Belgian Kempen. Here you will find a varied landscape, tranquility and of course some characteristic chapels.
Dommel Valley
Meadows, fields and the occasional small forest: the beautiful Kempen landscape makes it wonderful to travel for miles. Every now and then you pass an old Kempen farm. You also drive a bit through the Dommel Valley. This protected landscape consists of fields with hedgerows, alder forests, poplar plantations and hay fields. Between junctions 248 and 5 you drive over a former railway line. It is nice to pedal along the leafy and quiet path here.
Religious heritage
Just before Wijchmaal you drive past the Sint-Hubertus Chapel from 1893. In Erpekom is the Sint-Hubertus Church. This building dates from 1960. It replaced a small church that dated from the tenth (!) century and was moved to the Bokrijk Open Air Museum. Since 2011, there has been a monument near the current church with a print of this old church. A little further on you will pass the Laarderkapel, a monumental neo-Gothic chapel from 1908. You are welcome for a snack and a drink at the cozy and educational Breugelhoeve.
