Cycling through the Belgian Kempen

In the Belgian Kempen you will find everything that makes cycling so interesting and fun: peace, space, lots of natural beauty and a rich cultural history. This route takes you through the Pijnven and the Dommelvallei.

Old chapel
The first few kilometres are a great way to warm up, while looking out over fields, arable land and streams. Between junctions 248 and 5 you will cycle over a former railway line. It is a great way to pedal along the leafy and quiet path. Via the forest of the Resterheide you will reach Hechtel, a friendly village where you can admire a few mansions. On the Dorpsstraat you will see the Chapel of Our Lady of Assistance. The prayer house is said to date from the mid-nineteenth century.

Fragrant Pine Pond
A little later you cycle for kilometres through the fragrant coniferous forests of the Pijnven. What a treat! From junction 245 you cycle a bit through the Dommel valley. This protected landscape consists of fields with hedgerows, alder swamp forests, poplar plantations and hayfields. The Wedelse Molen is located on the river. According to some sources, the mill already existed in the 8th century, which would mean that it is the oldest water mill in the Benelux. At the cosy and educational Breugelhoeve you are welcome for a bite to eat and a drink.
