Wine castle Genoelselderen
Tongeren started out as a Gallo-Roman settlement in 15 BC. This oldest town in Belgium was granted market rights in the second century. You can discover even more history around the city. The route first takes you to the beautiful Wijnkasteel Genoelselderen, the largest wine estate in the country. You will find thirteenth-century wine cellars and a beautiful rose garden. Landcommanderij Alden Biesen is also a beautiful castle: take a break to discover the Moated Castle and French Gardens!
Marienhof
The original Crusader monastery Trappistine Abbey Marienhof is the last attraction. The abbey was founded at the beginning of the fifteenth century, part of it is still in use by the order of Cistercians. The baroque chapel and sacristy can be visited under supervision and in the stables you will find a museum about the fruit region Haspengouw. Back at your starting point, the trendy Eburon Hotel, you can stay another night. It is so beautiful here!
