A medieval collective of larger farmers created a beautiful landscape around Uffelte. High-altitude fields were separated by gigantic forests, large peat areas, vast heathlands and beautiful drifting sands. On the Havelterberg in the Westerzand you will see two dolmens from the Funnel Beaker culture: dolmen D54 and dolmen D53. Dolmen D54 is the smallest with fourteen supporting stones and six covering stones. The easternmost capstone is missing, together with the keystone. Dolmen D53 has 21 supporting stones, two keystones and nine covering stones. The gate is also complete and consists of four supporting stones and a covering stone. Stop off at Buitengoed Fredeshiem for a cup of coffee or something tasty! You cycle back through Wilhelminaoord and Frederiksoord, founded by the Society of Benevolence. They have now been declared a World Heritage Site, beautiful places to soak up the atmosphere.
