Description
From Venlo you can take a beautiful trip through some nature reserves on the Maas. About halfway you will pass the Castle Gardens of Arcen.
Hanseatic city
During the Second World War, a large part of the old, partly medieval center of Venlo was destroyed. Yet you will still find some beautiful monumental buildings here, such as on the Parade. Just outside the city you immediately cycle into nature. Driving across the border you look out over the Groote Heide. During WWII this area served as a German airfield.
Black Water
Further on you pass through the Zwart Water, a varied nature reserve around the Venkoelen: an old Meuse meander. You drive through the forests of the Lommerheide and Leeremarkse Heide to the famous Castle Gardens of Arcen. The castle dates from 1653. You drive back to Venlo along the floodplains of the Maas and through the village of Lomm.
